Frequently Asked Questions About Admissions Coaching

We've listed some common questions below. Still have more? Reach out to us today and one of our coaches will get back to you shortly.

The process

No, never. Every application essay is built and owned by the student. We help students identify compelling experiences, build their narrative arc, and tell memorable stories through their written application. Throughout the process, we coach writing and storytelling skills that help students refine their unique voice. Near the end of the process, we offer targeted feedback on essay drafts and show students how to use proofreading tools appropriately.

It varies by student, but most meet weekly or biweekly, especially during the active application season. We build coaching packages around each student's timeline and goals so sessions can be more intensive early on and lighter as deadlines pass. We offer flexible scheduling and meet virtually.

We don't – you decide. We believe that it's important to know your admissions coach from start to finish. You'll work with the same person from your first introductory call until you submit your application. Occasionally, for students with special interests like athletics, medicine, or engineering, we will bring in a specialized coach or professional to work alongside your primary coach.

Outcomes

More than 95% of students who work with us to determine appropriate target schools are admitted to one or more of them, and over 99% tell us they're satisfied with the experience. We deliberately don't publish admit rates for individual programs, for two reasons. First, any single program's acceptance rate tells you very little about an individual student's chances — or their future success. Second, admission to Canada's most competitive programs, especially for students applying globally at the same time, is so selective that program-by-program figures would mislead more often than they'd help. So we focus on the two outcomes that actually matter: client satisfaction, and admission to one or more well-fit target schools. In practice, that means helping each student earn a place at a top program that genuinely suits them — and feel confident they're heading somewhere right.

We believe our approach unlocks the curiosity, resilience, and authenticity top universities are selecting for – but that many ambitious students struggle to articulate. Top marks and a full extracurricular list are no longer enough. We help bridge the gap between accomplished students and highly sought-after admits.

No, and we'd be suspicious of anyone who does. What we can commit to is an honest coaching journey that will benefit students beyond simply gaining admission; they will be better storytellers, adept critical thinkers, and more confident in tackling the challenges they'll face in university and beyond.

Fit

Grade 9–12 students at Canadian high schools targeting selective undergraduate programs (e.g., Western Ivey, Waterloo Engineering, McMaster Health Sci, Queen's Commerce, etc.) and US Ivy/Ivy+ schools. Students who benefit from our coaching the most are naturally curious, ambitious problem solvers and appreciate coaches who teach the why, not simply the how. Importantly, we are not for students or families who expect a “consultant” to do the applications for you.

Yes. Starting early lets us shape a coherent profile rather than scramble in Grade 12. Typically, meetings with Grade 9s and their families will be less frequent and more strategic in nature: which classes to take, which extracurriculars to consider, and how to approach university admissions in the coming years.

Yes, and we believe we're uniquely suited to help Canadian high school athletes apply to Canadian U Sports programs and American NCAA programs concurrently. We coordinate the academic application strategy around athletic recruitment timelines and balance academic fit with athletic priorities and future career planning. See our Student-Athletes page for detail.

AI & ethics

Emerging research suggests that overreliance on AI can weaken the independent thinking, judgment, and authentic voice that strong applications require. And we're skeptical of AI tools that claim to help with admissions without explaining how they really work.
